Greeting from Director Akashi

The 21st Century is a time in which we can communicate with anyone in the world through the use of the Internet. People, commodities, money and information can now circulate freely with little regard for national borders. In this era of globalization, we must ensure that our citizens have the necessary skills to communicate well. It is necessary to increase the number of Japanese people who are proficient in English, which has become the most widely accepted international language. There is no shortcut to acquiring a language. Acknowledging that motivation is crucial to successful language learning, we must recognize that people have many reasons for studying English. We wish to support English learners of various levels and interests in their quest to improve their English proficiency. Foreign languages are tools which enable people to learn about cultures and perspectives different from their own. The institute's primary goal is to promote a form of English education that emphasizes the practical use of English as a means of communication in an increasingly interconnected world.
