The Akashi Juku was established to give 20 specially selected high school students in Gunma the opportunity to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to work in the international arena. Akashi Juku is the brainchild of the Tourism and International Affairs Division. One of the goals of the Akashi Juku is to foster not only the students' knowledge of other cultures but also a deeper appreciation of their own cultural heritage. Students attend English lessons taught by teachers from the Foreign Language Research Institute and participate in lectures about culture and international issues. .
