卒業生、高草木美佑さんが国際学会（EuroSLA）で論文を発表しました。

　One of our former GPWU students, Miyu Takakusagi, gave a presentation at the annual European Second Language Association conference held in Switzerland in August 2022. Her co-author is Dr. Neal Snape, a professor at GPWU. The presentation entitled 'Acquisition of Japanese particles WA and GA by heritage speakers' was based on her research for her undergraduate dissertation. Both her presentation and dissertation were in English. Congratulations Miyu!
　Her research investigated the acquisition of WA and GA by bilingual speakers of languages like Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, Tagalog acquiring Japanese. She wanted to find out if the bilingual speakers' understanding of WA and GA is the same or different from a monolingual speaker of Japanese. Her findings show that the bilingual speakers' knowledge of WA and GA is no different from the monolingual speakers of Japanese. This is an important finding because it shows that acquiring two languages from an early age is great for linguistic and cognitive development. As long as parents provide input (e.g., speaking to their children) from both languages, children can grow up with two languages, not only one language.

　2022年8月にスイスで開催されたEuroSLA (the European Second Language Association ヨーロッパ第二言語習得学会) 年次大会で、国際コミュニケーション学部英語コミュニケーション課程の卒業生、高草木美佑 (タカクサギ ミユ) さんが論文発表を行いました。共著者は国際コミュニケコーション学部、ニール・スネイプ教授です。発表のタイトルは「Acquisition of Japanese particles WA and GA by heritage speakers」で、彼女の卒論研究がベースになっています。高草木さんは論文を英語で書き、今回の発表も英語で行いました。おめでとうございます。

　高草木さんの研究は、ブラジル・ポルトガル語、中国語、タガログ語とともに日本語を習得しているバイリンガル話者（二言語併用話者）の、日本語の助詞「は」と「が」の習得について調査したものです。この研究で、高草木さんはバイリンガル話者の「は」と「が」の理解は、日本語のモノリンガル話者（単一言語使用者）の理解と同じなのか、それとも違うのかを明らかにしようとしました。その結果、バイリンガル話者の「は」と「が」の知識は、日本語のモノリンガル話者の知識と変わらないことがわかりました。これは、幼少期から2つの言語を習得することが、言語的・認知的発達にとって非常に有効であることを示す重要な知見です。親が両方の言語でのインプット（例：子どもに話しかける）を与える限り、子どもは1つの言語だけでなく、2つの言語を習得して成長することができるのです。）
