音声学・音韻論ゼミナール（小笠原奈保美）

人間が調音器官を使って出す音を「音声」と言います。音声は音ですから、音波や周波数など物理的な特性を持っています。また、同じ「あ」という音を発声しても、その音声は人それぞれ違う周波数を持っています。それにもかかわらず、聞き手は同じ音として認識します。一体どのように知覚しているのでしょうか？このゼミでは、音声に関する面白い事象に興味のある学生が集まってディスカッションをしたり、実験をして音声データを集めて分析したりしています。

統語論ゼミナール（深谷晃彦）

私たちが自分の母語を話すことができたり、理解できたりするのはなぜでしょうか。それは、私たちの頭の中に母語に関する知識が蓄えられているからだと考えられますが、普段、私たちはそれを知識として意識していません。このゼミでは、主に英語のネイティブスピーカーが持っているこのような潜在的な知識、特に文法に関する知識に焦点を当て、彼らの言語直感の背後にある法則やしくみについて学んでいきます。

意味・語用論ゼミナール（吉村敬子）

This seminar will cover topics in semantics (the study of conventional meaning) and pragmatics (the study of interactional meaning) that are central to research in those fields. If you are interested in questions like the following, this seminar is for you. In a sentence like, "There are ( ) students in the classroom", you can put "some" but not "most." Why is that? "have to" and "must" are similar in meaning in a sentence like "You {have to / must} study", but once you negate the sentence, "You don't have to study" and "You must not study", the meaning changes completely. How can we explain it?

認知言語学ゼミナール（細井洋伸）

このゼミでは、私達人間がこの世界をどのように認知しているか、その認知の仕方が言語構造、言語表現に反映されていると考え、言語の特徴を分析していくものです。より具体的には、上の認知言語学の考えのもと、英語と日本語を比較しながら、英語と日本語の言語構造、言語表現の違いに、英語の母国語話者と日本語母国語話者の、この世界に対するどのような認識の違いが反映されているのかを考えます。

社会言語学ゼミナール（マーク・フライヤーミュース）

In this seminar, we will concentrate on the following topics in class: 1) communication between people, 2) different types of communication, 3) language variety, 4) dialects of English 5) language birth, language death and language transformation and finally, 5) gender and language. Students will discuss these topics in class from assigned readings. One goal of this seminar is to have students understand how English is used in a variety of settings; however, an equally important aim is for students to gain a deeper appreciation for how culture influences language in general--including its effects on Japanese.

言語習得論ゼミナール（梅田真理）

学校で英語やその他の外国語を勉強したことがあると思いますが、外国語を習得するのは難しく、なかなか上手に話せるようにはなりません。一方で母語の習得に関してはどうでしょうか。母語はいつの間にか身についてしまうもので、一生懸命勉強をした記憶はないと思います。言語習得論ゼミでは、子どもはどのような過程を経て母語を習得するのか、子どもが母語を習得するのに必要な条件や環境とは何なのか、などの言語習得に関する様々な疑問について考えます。

第二言語習得論ゼミナール（ニール・スネイプ）

My seminar courses are about Second Language Acquisition (SLA). If you take my SLA course in the 2nd year, you will already have some knowledge of the topics related to my seminars. In the first year of my seminars you will learn about important topics related to SLA such as L1 transfer, Universal Grammar, Age, Interlanguage, Fossilization, Attrition and the differences between adult and child second language learners. In the second year, you will have the chance to carry out your own research project for your undergraduate dissertation.

言語教育学ゼミナール（神谷信廣）

皆さんは「第二言語習得」という言葉をご存知ですか。これは、「母語以外の言語の習得」のメカニズムに関する学問です。「第二言語習得」には、様々な要素が影響を与えます。このゼミでは、これらの要素について理解を深めながら、それらを基にしてどのように日本の英語教育を変えていけるのかを考えていきます。3年生は全員で一緒に研究論文を1本書き、全国規模の学会で発表します。4年次には、全員が個人で卒業論文を書きます。
